I take my intrepid g-kids out of Boothbay, Maine for their first puffin cruise. I have done this cruise from Cap'n Fish a few times, I am feeling really nostalgic thinking I took their mother on this same cruise 20 years ago. I was shooting a D200 with a 28-70 2.8 lens and the weather was miserable and we saw 2 puffins. I have gone back a few times more and have always had marvelous trips with amazing views of the puffins. But this was extra special, taking the grand kids. They were super excited about the boat trip and after we made sure we were in a perfect spot on the upper deck it was just a matter of time. We approach Egg island and there is rafts and rafts of puffins. The g-kids are taking pictures and saying how funny the birds look. Giggling and frantically chimping their screens making sure they got good pics. Each one bragging they got better pics than the other. On the cruise back they say when can we do it again..I love that they share the passion for bird photography and nature with me. A special memory I will cherish.
