I had just received an email telling me about a highly anticipated trip to Costa Rica for January of 2023. The veteran birder leading the trip also knows that I am there for the photography. He said make sure to bring flash because alot of the birds will be in the forests. I don't usually shoot with flash so I immediately start watching every YouTube video I can find on it. I possess a couple of flashes, a better beamer and a mag mod wildlife modifier because well you know I just had to have them and just didnt use them, more of a natural light guy and I didnt really like the look of the photos. I know on the side of my house I planted some flowers I don't even know what they are but the hummingbirds love them. So I set up a couple of feeders above them and watched the show! I practiced with using light on manual then TTL , I put a backdrop up and got some very reasonable results. I will continue to practice so that I develop muscle memory and not have to think everything out. So enjoy my Ruby Throated Hummingbirds that were literally steps away from my front door!
Ruby Throated Hummingbird
The Ruby-throated Hummingbird is a small hummingbird with a slender, slightly downcurved bill and fairly short wings that don’t reach all the way to the tail when the bird is sitting.
Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are bright emerald or golden-green on the back and crown, with gray-white underparts. Males have a brilliant iridescent red throat that looks dark when it’s not in good light.
